Raisin Rack celebrates 40th anniversary in March

WESTERVILLE, Ohio, March 1, 2018 – Long before organic and natural foods became mainstream, Raisin Rack Natural Food Market was one of the first “health food stores” in Ohio. In March, Raisin Rack proudly celebrates its 40th year of operation.

Raisin Rack Natural Food Market was founded in 1978 in Canton, Ohio, by former schoolteachers Don and Paulette Caster. The company expanded to the Columbus, Ohio, market in 1982 and currently maintains locally-owned stores in Westerville and Canton. Raisin Rack, one of the largest independent natural foods stores in the state, is recognized as a leading retail provider of nutritional supplements, health and beauty products, and organic, natural and gluten-free foods.

Don Caster, Raisin Rack’s founder and CEO, attributes the growth to rising demand for quality organic and natural foods, environmentally friendly products, expansion of its stores, and outstanding customer service. Raisin Rack has received numerous awards through the years. Most recently it was named Best Health Food Store in central Ohio in a reader survey conducted by The Columbus Dispatch.

“Forty years ago, we set out to change people’s attitudes and understanding of the role quality, unadulterated food plays in our quality of life,” Caster said. “Today, the awareness is broader than we could have dreamed possible. Today, it is accepted. We are happy and proud to have played a part in this transformation. Thank you to all of our loyal customers that have traveled this journey with us. “

On January 18, 2017, the Ohio Grocers Association presented Raisin Rack with the prestigious Pinnacle Award, which is based on operational excellence and significant contribution to Ohio’s food industry. It is given annually to both a small operator and a large operator.

Raisin Rack was launched in a tiny store in Canton and has grown through the years into a 17,000-square-foot facility in the northeast Ohio city. The Casters opened their first store in the Columbus market in suburban Upper Arlington and at one time operated four stores before consolidating into a 25,000-square-foot operation in Westerville in 2006.

Raisin Rack stores are dedicated to offering foods with less processing and a wide variety of offerings that are fresh with the added commitment of local quality. The business continues to evolve to meet the needs of today’s shopper in a competitive market. Whether it’s the millennial shopper, concerned parents, vegans, vegetarians, or baby boomers, Raisin Rack is uniquely designed to cater to each customer group’s health portfolio.

The Westerville location offers an extensive café menu that features an organic salad bar, fresh sushi, sandwiches and wraps, gluten-free and vegan options, freshly made juices and smoothies. At the Canton store, the menu includes grab-and-go sandwiches, salad bar and soup, smoothies and juices.

Today, the Raisin Rack team continues to proudly serve the Columbus and Canton areas with a friendly and knowledgeable staff that’s second to none in the industry.
